Hawkins, Texas----Baseball (29-24, RRAC 16-10) closed out regular season play on Sunday, April 30, 2017, on the campus of Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, completing series play against the Steers of Texas College (13-40, RRAC 6-21) in the Battle of I-20.

GAME THREEBulldogs 12, Steers 1

JCC starter, Matt Burrows (JR/Manteca, CA) (4-2-1) | TC starter, Carlos Cordero (3-7)

DeAndre Mcguire (0-for-3) would reach first on a walk, advancing to second and third on a pair of stolen bases. McGuire would score on a Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) (0-for-3) sac fly to left, as JCC would take an early 1-0 lead. Texas College would threaten with runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom half, but Anthony Ortiz (SO/Bronx, NY) would gun the runner out at first attempting to steal second for the third out.

Anthony Ortiz (3-for-3) would reach base in the 3rd on a single up the middle, leading way for Jonathan Lewis (FR/Longview, TX) to take second on a stolen base, advancing to third on an error, before scoring on a McGuire ground out to short. Matt Burrows would strike out the side in the bottom half to record his 5th straight strike out, sixth of the game.

JCC would add another in the 4th on a TC throwing error to take a 3-0 lead. In the 5th, Tyler Ruiz (FR/Jasper, TX) (2-for-3) would lead the inning off with a single to short. Ruiz would go on to score on a sac fly by Ortiz, moving the JCC lead, 4-0. After a pair of singles by Kameron Davis (1-for-3) and Nicholas Babineaux (1-for-3), TC would have runners on the corners with 1 out in the bottom half. Davis would go on to score after the runner at first would be picked off, trimming the JCC lead 4-1.  Carlos Andrade would go on to score in the 6th, after a Santos Abreu (JR/Brooklyn, NY) (1-for-4) RBI single, as CJ Tyler (FR/Van Alstyne, TX) (2-for-4) would knock a bomb over the left field fence to give JCC a 6-1 lead.

Burrow's day would be done in the 6th, as Tyler Arnsberg (JR/Merced, CA) would enter the game to pitch for the Bulldogs with the lead, retiring the Steers 1-2-3. JCC would add two more in the 7th, followed by another CJ Tyler homerun in the 8th, moving the lead to 9-1. JCC would go on to score three more in the inning, taking a 12-1 lead, as play would be finalized in the 8th.

With the win, JCC earns the right to the golden bat as the Battle of I-20 champions.

GAME FOURBulldogs 3, Steers 9

JCC starter, Emilio Griego (JR/Yuma, AZ) (2-4) | TC starter, Logan Nicholson (1-3)

In the non-conference game four contest, the Bulldogs would find themselves trailing early, as Texas College would get on the board first in the 2nd inning on a JCC throwing error to take a 0-1 lead over the Bulldogs. Marques Irving (2-for-4) would homer over the left field fence in the 3rd to give the Steers a 0-2 lead. Hunter Babineaux (2-for-3) would follow as TC would go back-to-back to go ahead 0-3.

Carlos Andrade (1-for-3) would record the first hit for JCC in the 4th with a lead off single to right. CJ Tyler (1-for-4) would follow with a double to deep left-center. Andrade would go on to score on a fielder's choice to cut the TC lead down to 1-3 with 1 out. With the bases loaded, Angel Guillen (JR/Santa Maria, CA) (0-for-1) would head to first via hit by pitch to score Tyler, as JCC would strand the bases loaded trailing 2-3.

TC would respond in bottom half, taking a 2-7 lead as Jordan Garcia (FR/Orange Grove, TX) would come into replace Griego. JCC would see another pitching change in the 6th, as James Perez (JR/Fort Worth, TX) would take the mound with runners on. TC would add to their lead, 2-9, as we would head into the 7th and final inning. JCC would cross a run but no more, as play would come to an end.

As the regular season comes to a close, JCC (30-25, RRAC 17-10) will now look to make a run in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament as the 4 seed on May 5-8, 2017, on the campus of LSU-Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Bulldogs will face 5 seed, the University of the Southwest (26-22, RRAC 16-10) in game one of the tournament on Friday, May 5, 2017. First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
