Shreveport, Louisiana----It was championship Sunday for the Bulldogs on May 7, 2017, at Pilots Field in Shreveport, Louisiana, as JCC would take on LSU-Shreveport in the RRAC Baseball Championship game.

Bulldogs 5, Pilots 7

JCC starter, Emilio Griego (JR/Yuma, AZ) (2-4) | LSUS starter, Cade Gibson (6-3)

The Pilots would look to score early with 1 out, but Austen Pulcher (FR/Baytown, TX) would be ready in right field to gun the LSUS runner out at the plate in the 1st. JCC would have a chance to record the final out of the inning, but play would extend as the Pilots would cross the first run of the game. In the bottom half, DeAndre McGuire (SR/Houston, TX) (2-for-5) would reach base on a lead off double to begin play, advancing to third on a Ryan Emerald (SR/Jamestown, CA) (2-for-4) sacrifice bunt, scoring on a fielder's choice to knot the game up at 1-1.

LSUS would extend their lead in the 3rd before the Bulldogs would score again on an RBI single by Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) (2-for-3), trimming the LSUS lead 4-2. Noel Sanchez (JR/Riverbank, CA) would keep JCC within reach in the 4th and 5th innings, as Carlos Andrade would knock a 2 RBI homerun over the right field wall to knot the game up at 4 apiece in the bottom half of the 5th.

In the 6th, LSUS would go back ahead to take a 7-4 lead over JCC, scattering four hits. Matt Burrows (JR/Manteca, CA) would take the mound for the Bulldogs in the 6th, limiting damage and shutting down the Pilots offense for the remainder of the game.

In the 9th and final inning, the Bulldogs would create excitement crossing the plate on a Ryan Emerald RBI double that would score DeAndre McGuire after the lead off hitter would be retired. JCC would go on to load the bases but would be denied as the Pilots shortstop would lay out on a hard hit ground ball up the middle, turning a game ending double-play to force a second championship game on Monday.
