Eligibility Requirements

The following are general requirements by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for a student-athlete to be eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics. Please check with school counselors, coaches, the NAIA website, or Bulldog Athletics for further information.

High School Students

If you will graduate from high school this spring and enroll in college this coming fall, the requirements are simple. High school graduation, plus two out of three of these requirements:

  1. Achieve a minimum of 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT* (Critical Reading and Math Only). NEW ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN UPDATED AS OF MAY 20, 2016 REGARDING SAT SCORES**
  • If a student took the SAT before March 2016, the minimum accepted score is 860.
  • If the SAT was taken in March 2016 or after, the minimum accepted score is 940.**
** Students who scored between 860 and 930 on the March 2016 or later SAT test will be granted an automatic SAT test score minimum exception to compete during the 2016-17 academic year. No action is needed by the student; the NAIA Eligibility Center will automatically apply this SAT test score minimum exception in the eligibility determination process. (See changes for home school students.)
  1. See above.
  2. Achieve a minimum overall high school GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Graduate in the top half of your high school class.

Transfer Students

24/36 Hour Rule--Transfer students are required to have completed 24 semester/36 quarter hours of institutional credit in their last two full-time semesters/three quarters of enrollment prior to transferring.

Progress Rule--If you're a transfer student who has already used one or more of your four seasons of competition, you will need to show completion of the following before you can compete:

  • Second season: 24 semester/36 quarter institutional credit hours
  • Third season: 48 semester/72 quarter institutional credit hours
  • Fourth season: 72 semester/108 quarter institutional credit hours (including 48 semester/72 quarter hours in general education of your major field of study)

GPA Rule--Transfer students are required to have 2.0 cumulative college GPA if they have junior academic standing or have been charged 2 or more seasons of competition. The GPA is calculated from all college coursework previously completed.

Seasons of Competition--Students are charged seasons for competing at the collegiate level or for any elite outside competition that takes place the summer after high school graduation in a year when you're not participating in college sports. NAIA students are allowed a maximum of 4 seasons of competition in a single sport.
